Let’s go to the movies!
There are some great movies and shows about the Equal Rights Amendment. Ready to gather your friends for a movie night? Or maybe you just want to binge or even create your own film festival. We also have lots of videos of our past events on our YouTube channel.
Here are some of our film favorites:
Equal Means Equal by Kamala Lopez. Essential viewing that ties all the issues together in a compelling argument for why we need the Equal Rights Amendment. Available as a DVD and streaming on multiple platforms. The link takes you to a page on how to host a screening yourself.
Legalize Equality is a 30-minute cut of Equal Means Equal, focusing on the legal and economic arguments for the ERA. Available through the Equal Means Equal store.
Mrs. America is a Hulu series with a dramatized behind the scenes look at the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and the unanticipated response, as lead by conservative Phyllis Schlafly.
On the Basis of Sex is focuses on the landmark case that set the beloved, late Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg on a path to become the leading gender rights lawyer.
Amend, a Netflix series, dramatizes the challenges of amending the U.S. Constitution. Episode 4, “Control,” is about the women’s rights movement and the Equal Rights Amendment. There’s an excellent shout out to Pauli Murray. You can also find the series on YouTube.
